The Sunday lineup was a crossover of our local Avengers. It featured Talentime winners and finalists from the 1970s and 1980s, along with legends from the alternative rock and Chinese music scenes. Young, equally talented singers also shined brightly on stage.

Day 2 closed the festival on a high, deserving of a rocking applause. Here are some highlights at Fort Canning Green:

Homegrown Icons

Shazza

Viral sensation Shazza showcased her smooth and emotional vocals with ‘Perfume’. Her songs explore relationships, vulnerability, and self-reflection with honesty and warmth.

The highlight came when she made a surprise cross-generational duet to an iconic Singaporean song – Tokyo Square’s ‘Within You Remain’. Shazza belted out the track with Max Surin and also shared that the 40-year-old classic was also her father’s favorite.

Max Surin remained on stage for the next act with fellow Talentime All-Stars.

Talentime All-Stars

The aura of legends filled the air as Ann Hussein, Clement Chow, Faridah Ali, Gerry Rezel, and Max Surin took the stage. They are the Talentime winners and finalists from the 1970s and 1980s.

In its heyday, Talentime was a major cultural phenomenon in Singapore1. Through radio and television, it launched aspiring singers and bands onto the national stage.

The five performers spanning multiple Talentime generations delivered a nostalgic medley, opening with The Tidbits’ ‘I Believe’ from the 1967 finale. They dedicated the song to Merlina Wee from the Tidbits.

The medley continued with songs from the finals through 1982. This includes classic songs like ‘Careless Whisper’, ‘Here Comes the Sun’, ‘Lovers’, and ‘Got to Get You Into My Life’.

It definitely did not feel like it was their first time performing together!

Mavis He

Mandarin and Cantonese pop queen Mavis Hee returned with cheers from the crowd as she sang heartfelt ballads that defined the 90s era. She performed songs like ‘城裡的月光’.

Iman Fandi

Iman Fandi has been crafting an R&B-pop sound true to her style. Taking the stage, she performed ‘That Girl’ and ‘Bunga Sayang,’ showcasing her journey of self-discovery and strength.

For the finale, she got the crowd to flash their phone lights for her upbeat and infectious track, ‘We Time’.

Shabir

Shabir

The inaugural winner of Vasantham Star 2005 was especially cool on stage when performing his biggest hits, ‘Vettai’ and ‘Yaayum’. Yaayum garnered millions of views on YouTube and Shabir has been recognised for his contributions to Tamil music.

Amni Musfirah & ChildAid Alumni

They performed the same set as Day 1.

Gift a Guitar Showcase

While on a smaller scale as compared to Day 1, the energy was just as electric. 15 young guitarists performed to an original song, ‘Me and My Guitar’.

Glenn Yong

Actor-turned-singer Glenn Yong represents Singapore’s next wave in the Mandopop scene. As he sang his songs with his red microphone, fans were ready with lightsticks and sang along.

Besides singing his songs, he also dedicated a song to his vocal teacher, Lee Wei Song, with a cover of Stefanie Sun’s ‘Against The Light’. The song was written by the veteran composer.

Looking forward to hearing his live singing improve over time.

Dru Chen

Dru Chen has long established himself through major label deals, high-profile collaborations, gaming industry work, and as a lecturer at Republic Polytechnic.

Surrounded by various instruments, Dru Chen showcased his pop, funk, and soul. The singer-songwriter started with a bright pop song with ‘Summertime’, complete with a guitar solo.

He shifted to the keys during ‘Atlas’ as fans cheered and grooved along. He continued with a medley of local favourites including Charlie Lim’s ‘Bitter’ on the piano, before bringing out some special guests.

Glenn Yong and Nathan Hartono shone bright for the final song, ‘Everyone Is A Star’. They got the crowd jumping and waving along.

The Great Spy Experiment

The indie rock veterans, The Great Spy Experiment, definitely closed off the Sing60 Music Festival on a high.

They performed tracks that shaped Singapore’s indie landscape, including ‘Sanctuary’ and ‘Siti In The City.’

The rock veterans ‘Wasted’ no time performing more songs from their 20-year career. This included slower rock ballads like ‘In the Sun,’ ‘Late Night Request,’ and ‘Litmus’. According to the band, the fans decided the setlist. Safe to say, the fans sang along enthusiastically.

The band shook the lawn with guitars, synths, and swagger during ‘Helsinki’ and ‘Class ‘A’ Love Affair’. At one point, the drummer played with just one stick!

The Great Spy Experiment also experimented with a highly requested encore to ‘Flower Show Riots’.

That was definitely a great way to wrap up the fun-filled weekend to celebrate SG60!
