Shooting Star XG was sighted by ALPHAZ ‘left right’ as they landed at The Star Theatre on 16 July 2024 for their 1st WORLD TOUR “The first HOWL”.

Their fans, ALPHAZ, were dressed for the occasion – they came through with inspired fits for this 7-member Japanese girl group based in South Korea.

XG commenced the first HOWL with a rock version of viral hit song, SHOOTING STAR. The vibe was different from when they performed in Singapore last year – decked out in futuristic silver outfits, equipped with mic stands and a simple, strong vocal performance.

Then they fired up the stage with a group dance break to transition to GRL GVNG. The ad-libs were served hot throughout, with ALPHAZ singing and grooving along with XG.

Tippy Toes got us tapping our feet to the beat next, as they moved from the iconic chair choreography to floorwork moves.

A long segment was set aside to provide a glimpse into each member of this Hip-Hop/R&B inspired girl group. And what is hip-hop without a DJ set by the CEO himself, DJ Simon!

DJ Simon even played a sneak of XG’s 1st pre-song from their second mini album, SOMETHING AIN’T RIGHT, that was released on 26 July, interspersed with VCR of XG’s pre-debut journey on the LED screens. He also got the crowd chuckling with a 1-minute snippet of Singapore’s national day song, Home.

Then, the crowd was in a frenzy the moment XG’s rap line came out to devour their bars during their solo performances. Decked in swag black XG-style fits, COCONA, MAYA, HARVEY, and JURIN did two song covers each to songs like Surround Sound, Dirt Off Your Shoulders, Down Bad, Million Cash, and I Won.

Their rap delivery was all unique, and they finished off the segment cleanly with a rendition of Trampoline.

The vocal line then stepped up with enchanting vocals and shiny, white feathered fits. The crowd was waving along to HINATA’s rendition of Red, CHISA’s cover of If I Were A Boy, and JURIA’s Hello song cover.

HINATA shared that the Taylor Swift song was one of her favourite songs and MAYA also recommended her to sing it for the concert.

Their soulful voices captured the fans’ hearts as XG’s vocal line sang to Losing You by FLO to end the segment.

XG then teamed up again, this time in black-matrix outfits with R&B vibes, as they performed to an acoustic version of LEFT RIGHT, followed by WINTER WITHOUT YOU and Just Stand Up!.

As they went for another costume change in two shifts, XG spent the time conversing with the fans, from asking food recommendations, to sharing their thoughts about their time in Singapore.

It was then time for the pack to show off their bright colours and energy on stage with tracks from XG’s first mini-album like HESONOO, X-GENE, TGIF and PUPPET SHOW. Their stable vocals entertained the crowd, and their coordinated and explosive choreography left the crowd screaming for more.

The ALPHAZ also howled for WOKE UP and MASCARA, as XG laughed and teased that they could hear ALPHAZ’s howling backstage. XG also had a dance party with a lucky fan at the front row.

But all good things must come to an end – signaled by the encore stage when XG came on stage in their final fits – the tie-dye crew neck tee merch. Speaking of merch, the queue for that shirt and other items were really long, before and after the show!

Everyone was still energetic for the final two songs of the night – NEW DANCE and LEFT RIGHT.

Overall, we could see the hard work put in to get to where they are now. XG was able to show their range of skills at the first HOWL. Looking forward to a more engaging set for their next tour!
