Happy 2024! This may be the year of the dragon, but it is also the year of the cats.

ULTRA MEGA CAT ATTACK (UMCA) returned to the Esplanade stage at DBS Foundation Outdoor Theatre on 21 January 2024, Sunday.

They played not only one, but two sets at 7.15pm & 8.45pm, and even included an outfit change between both sets!

Decked out in their signature cat masks and cat ear headbands (some even with tails!), UMCA introduced themselves to the crowd with a calming rock heavy tune of an unreleased song, Great Wall Of Sadness.

The home-grown band proceeded to warm up the crowd as they got different sections of crowd to scream as loud as they can.

The audience was then greeted warmly with familiar beats from UMCA’s debut album, HEARTBREAK. REVENGE. DISCO, titled Good Afternoon Mr. Wick. It was a sexy, drum-heavy groove, as vocalist Debbi Koh strutted across the stage to ‘cat’ some attention from the front row crowd and interacted with them.

The set also included booming drums, thumping bass lines, all-out guitar riffage with older songs like Don’t You Dare and 009.

It was meow or never with several brand-new tracks that have never been played live, one of them titled, Shit Party. It was upbeat and filled with head-banging tunes. Another track was also inspired by a specific character from the Star Wars’ Series Ashoka.

The band looked happy and at ease throughout the whole set. You could see their passion as they headbanged, jumped and kicked around as they jammed along. Hence it was an enjoyable set overall with good vibes.

The Singapore music scene is patiently waiting for their next album to drop. While UMCA shared there is no fixed date, they did appease the fans with cute merch that were available for purchase.

Guess it is safe to say that they came, they purred, and they conquered the stage.
