Tilly Birds First Live in Singapore

Tilly Birds held their first concert in Singapore on 8 July 2023, at Gateway Theatre.

TLDR: 10/10 rating. It was a concert worth jumping for.

The alternative rock band is made up of lead vocalist Anuroth Ketlekha (Third), guitarist Nutdanai Chuchat (Billy), and drummer Thuwanon Tantiwattanaworakul (Milo). For their tour, they also performed alongside two other talented guitarists.

The Thai musicians started off with a dramatic instrumental intro and then the spotlight hit Third as a cue for their first song, Ordinary.

They played a mix of older hits, interspersed with the more popular songs like Same Page?, Just Being Friendly, and Until Then. The crowd was loud as they knew the songs by heart and sang their hearts out during the chorus and climax.

There was a mix of nationalities in the audience, including Singaporeans, Malaysians and of course Thais – proof that music is a universal language.

The band also had ample opportunities to hit those riffs and solos for Billy and Milo to shine. (Milo even rapped front and center at one point!) The solos were great in highlighting their producing talent – while it was nothing too outlandish, it didn’t feel out of place, and really fit the vibe of the group.

That was all in a day’s work for Billy who managed to sing, play the keyboard, and change his guitars throughout the show.

Tilly Birds also played an unreleased original English song, as a sneak peek to their upcoming full English album!

What surprised me was that Tilly Birds spoke English fluently, and bantered with fans.

At one point, they also went down the aisle to greet the fans all the way to the back of the theatre.

Speaking of banter, Tilly Birds also read, shared, liked, and replied the fans online, and contributed to the post-concert depression through their Instagram and Twitter accounts.

If you are new to them, the band’s moniker is a fusion of Third and Billy’s names. The word “Birds” is included because they hope their music will elevate listeners to a higher place.

He continued belting out high notes and falsettos throughout without a break. He sang, jumped, and even belted it out with knees on the ground. I can confirm that Third eat cds.

(Their stage reminded me of CL’s performances because they perform their songs with little breaks in between.)

The encore too left everyone on a high, which consisted of four songs, including a crowd favourite – I’m Not Boring, You’re Just Bored.

The lights also worked hard to bring an extra texture to their stage.

Verdict: The setlist was a well-balanced one. It was full of non-stop hits for a 2-hour 15 minutes concert. They played some exciting Thai music live, and then let the audience rest with some slower songs. The show was truly entertaining and the audience remained excited even as the songs were mellow (and heart-breaking) in nature.
